Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU) has officially launched the 2026 edition of the PRAU Run, setting an ambitious target of Shs800 million to establish a permanent home for the country’s public relations community.
The launch, held at NRG Radio, marks one of the key activities in PRAU’s Golden Jubilee celebrations commemorating 50 years since the association’s founding in 1976.
Flagging off the fundraising drive, the PRAU Governing Council made an initial contribution of Shs100 million, signaling strong internal commitment toward the vision.
Speaking at the launch, PRAU Vice President Beinomugisha said the run goes beyond physical fitness and represents a defining moment for the profession.
“As we celebrate 50 years, this run is more than a fitness event. It’s a statement of our unity and vision for the future of our Association,” Beinomugisha said.
“The proceeds will help us set up a home that reflects our growth, resilience, and commitment to excellence in public relations,” he added.
He noted that the initiative is aimed at building a lasting legacy for both current and future public relations practitioners in Uganda.
“Together, we are creating a legacy for the PR profession in Uganda. We appreciate all those who have supported previous editions — our sponsors, partners, and well-wishers — and we call upon even more stakeholders to join us this year,” he said.
The PRAU Run 2026 is scheduled to take place on May 22 and will feature 5km and 10km routes through Kololo, starting from Sidelines Bar and Restaurant.
The event is expected to attract PR professionals, students, corporate organizations, and communication enthusiasts from across the country.
Participation kits are priced at Shs40,000 for paid-up PRAU members and Shs50,000 for non-members, with all proceeds directed toward the construction of the PRAU Home.
Beinomugisha emphasized that the run also provides an opportunity for networking and professional growth beyond the fundraising aspect.
“Beyond fitness, the event creates space for networking and reinforces PRAU’s commitment to community, professional growth, and legacy building,” he said.
“All funds from registration fees, sponsorships, and donations will go toward the PRAU Home, which will ground the profession in Uganda and the region,” he added.
Earlier this year, PRAU held its 50th Annual General Meeting, where it introduced digital membership IDs and unveiled a calendar of activities leading up to the Golden Jubilee celebrations in the second half of 2026.
Founded in 1976, PRAU serves as the umbrella body for public relations and communication professionals in Uganda. The association is affiliated with regional and international bodies including the East African Public Relations Association, African Public Relations Association, and International Public Relations Association.
As the association marks five decades of existence, the 2026 PRAU Run is being positioned not only as a celebration of its journey, but also as a major step toward securing its future.
